To avoid the decomposition of the common electrolyte at the LiMn2O4 electrode and Mn ion dissolution occurred by the corrosive reaction, sulfolane (SL) is investigated as an additive for LiMn2O4 cathode in lithium-ion batteries. The LiPF6-based electrolyte with SL exhibits wide electrochemical window. And when compared to the cell with the system of LiPF6-based electrolyte in LiMn2O4/Li cells, it shows several advantages, such as stable cycle performance, higher coulomb efficiency, and higher mean voltage.
