Synthesis of bulk glassy alloys in the (Fe,Co,Ni)-B-Si-Nb system

Multi-component [(Fe1-x-yCoxNiy)(0.75)B0.25Si0.05](96)Nb-4 glassy alloys were found to exhibit distinct glass transition over the whole composition range, followed by a supercooled liquid region (Delta T-x) in the range of 40-65 K before crystallization. The saturation magnetization (I-s) is in the range of 0.3-1.1 T and coercive force (H-c) is in the range of 1-3 A/m. Bulk glassy alloys with diameters in the range up to 4 mm were successfully synthesized. The bulk glassy alloys also exhibit high Vickers hardness of 1100-1240, high fracture strength (sigma(f)) of 3700-4250 MPa, and high Young's modulous (E) of 170-210 GPa combined with true elastic strain (epsilon(e)) of 0.02 and true. plastic strain (epsilon(p)) of 0.0025-0.005.
