Radial deformation losses in photonic crystal fibres

摘要
Radial deformation losses in photonic crystal fibres are calculated and compared to the corresponding losses in standard step-index fibres. Both numerical aperture and spot size are matched at lambda = 1550 nm. The calculations show that radial deformation losses of photonic crystal fibres and standard step-index fibres are comparable at the matched wavelength. It is also estimated that radial deformation losses of photonic crystal fibres vary by less than three orders of magnitude between lambda = 400 and 2500 nm, compared to a variation of over seven orders of magnitude for the step-index fibre.
