Quenching stick-slip chaos with dither

摘要
High-frequency excitation or dither was applied to significantly alter the low-frequency forced behavior of an experimental stick-slip friction oscillator. Chaos inherent to a stick-slip oscillator was quenched by effectively removing the stick-slip aspect of the behavior. The observed behavior was supported by averaging analysis which suggests that high-frequency excitation effectively removes the discontinuity for the low-frequency behavior.
