摘要
The oxidation of primary alcohols by quinolinium dichromate, in acid medium, gave the corresponding aldehydes. The reaction was first order in each - substrate, oxidant and acid. The mechanistic pathway involved the formation of a cyclic chromate ester, which underwent decomposition, in the rate-determining step, to give the product.
