Machinable Ti2AlC ceramics produced by spark plasma sintering

摘要
Ti2AlC machinable ceramics were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) with the Ti2AlC powders made of SHS. The relative density is 98.6% and the Vickers hardness is 4.3 GPa for the sintered Ti2AlC sample obtained at 1250 degrees C and 20 MPa for 5 min under vacuum. The Vickers hardness of sintered Ti2AlC samples is enhanced with the increase of sintering temperature up to the optimal sintering temperature of 1250 degrees C, then decreased and decomposed at >= 1350 degrees C. SEM showed that the layered grain size of the samples prepared by SPS increased with the increase of sintering temperature.
