Regenwetter et al. (2022) demonstrate that the value of descriptive models of choice behavior can be enhanced by explicit abstraction of the observed heterogeneity. The current comment extends their analysis by highlighting the importance of the distinction between within- and between-person heterogeneity. When within-person heterogeneity is large, estimating individual parameters can impair prediction.
