摘要
In order to explore cultural and other differences between Western countries and China and thus to avoid cultural misunderstanding caused by improper translation in cross-cultural communication, two best-known English versions of The Story of the Stone (the Yang's version and the Hawks' version) are comparatively studied to analyze how translators take distinct ways to translate the same words or sentences under the influences of culture, thoughts, language habits and translation methods. It is concluded that the specific culture and the factors discussed above influence the understanding of source text and bring difference into the translation in cross-cultural communication.
