Lithium isotope separation by 12-metallacrown-3 complexes

摘要
The 12-metallacrown-3 complexes [(C6H5Me)RU(C5H3NO2)](3) (3), [((C6H3Pr3)-Pr-i)Ru(C5H3NO2)](3) (4) and [(C6Me6)RU(C5H3NO2)](3) (5) were synthesizes by reaction of the corresponding [(arene)RuCl2](2) complex with 2,3-dihydroxypyridine in the presence of base. Addition of LiCl in methanol gave the adducts 3xLiCl, 4xLiCl and 5XLiCl. The complexes 3, 3XLiCI and 4XLiCI were analyzed by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The ability of the metallacrown complexes to differentiate between the isotopes Li-6(+) and Li-7(+) was investigated by isotope selective laser graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy. It was found that the macrocycle 5 preferentially binds to the smaller isotope Li-7(+).
