The Diplomacy of Sounds. Porfirio Diaz, Thomas Edison and the Improved Phonograph (Mexico-United States, 1888-1890)

In this article I try to reconstruct the relationship between Porfirio D??az Mori and Thomas Alva Edison, having as its central axis the uses and representations of phonographs. The links between both characters open a privileged door to access a history of diplomacy, the uses of sound technologies and business networks between Mexico and the United States. Through letters, journalistic news and contracts, I will go through various episodes of this relationship, which included the sending of talking machines and north music, the delivery of concessions and the signing of agreements for the Mexican postal service to be carried out on phonographic cylinders.
