Incidental situs inversus visualized with FDG PET/CT

A 68-year-old man was referred for a PET/CT scan to assist in the staging of a biopsy-proved nonsmall cell carcinoma of the left lung. The patient previously worked in an opal mine and had no significant past medical history. A PET/CT scan was performed on an LSO Duo Biograph (Siemens, Hoffman Estates, IL, USA) after the injection of 333.1 MBq (9 mCi) FDG. The patient fasted for 6 hours prior to the scan. In addition to the primary lung tumor and regional nodal disease, there was incidental situs inversus. The referring doctor was aware of the diagnosis but this was not relayed on the PET request or to the patient.
