We report upon a newborn with congenital Horner's syndrome. Suspicion of a connatal varicella-zoster-syndrome occured early because of the ocular symptoms and the anamnestic hints in pregnancy. We could not prove this rare disease serologicaly until herpes-zoster-affection at five months of age occured. It was followed by an increasing varicella-zoster-virus-IgG which proved infection in utero. Discussion: In a newborn with congenital Horner's syndrome and the suspicion of varicella-zoster-syndrome the early manifestation of a herpes-zoster-disease establishes the diagnosis even with indistinct serological evidence.
