Pseudo-Behcet's disease

Behcet's disease (BD) is a complex multisystem disease characterized by oral, ocular, and genital lesions with a variety of cutaneous or systemic manifestations. Pseudo-Behcet's disease is a term used to describe patients referred for consultation with a diagnosis of BD who do not have BD. The presence of oral and genital or ocular lesions can occur in several mucocutaneous conditions. The conditions complex aphthosis, erythema multiforme, mucous membrane pemphigoid, and the vulvovaginal-gingival variant of erosive oral lichen planus may be confused by clinicians who refer patients for diagnosis and management of BD. The astute clinician evaluating patients for BD considers pseudo-Behcet's disease in the differential diagnosis of the mucocutaneous manifestations of BD.
