摘要
In 33 of 89 free-living guanacos hunted in Tierra del Fuego, sarco-sporidial macro-cysts were detected upon meat inspection. Prevalence was significantly higher in guanacos dwelling on meadows than in animals from forest areas, presumably because guanacos grazing on meadows had contact to sheep flocks and thus to excretions from shepherd-dogs. In 28 lama slaughtered in the north of Chile, prevalence of macrocysts was 100%, and such cysts were also found upon necropsy of 4 alpacas in Uruguay. Although macrocysts can be detected easily and the infested meat is unfit for consumption, camelids may also harbour (micro-)cysts of zoonotic Sarcocystis-species. Consequently, meat from such species should always be subjected to "safe" processing procedures.
