Boron doped diamond electrodes for nitrate elimination in concentrated wastewater

摘要
Electrochemical and physical properties of polycrystalline boron doped diamond electrodes with a metallic conduction grown by MPCVD and HFCVD were investigated with the goal to use them as cathodes, for the electrochemical reduction of nitrate ions dissolved in neutral solutions. All electrodes contain a mean boron concentration [B] > 3 X 10(20) cm(-3) and show a significant reduction of nitrate. However, the higher efficiency is obtained for the electrode having the highest [B] (1.5 x 10(21) cm(-3)) and the lowest concentration of parasitic phases. The analysis of the Raman spectrum proved to be a valuable tool to probe these characteristics. Quantitative analysis of the solutions showed that the relative concentrations of the nitrogenous species formed during the reduction of nitrates at - 2 V do not depend on the boron doping level.
