摘要
Modern shipbuilding industry is evolving at a fast rate; with the innovations in designing, there is a need of developing an ingenious tool to analyze these designs. The primary objective of the research work is to assist the ship architects to achieve economical, safer, and operational design by performing stability calculations using this designed tool, which will not only be accurate compared to widely available commercial tools in the global market but will also be economical and user friendly. This paper mainly includes the explanation of the concepts and methodology behind the modeling of stability and its tool. The hydrostatics and stability mainly depend upon the ship geometry and weight distribution. The ship lines and their interpretation using rules of integration determine the properties of a hull. Ship's hydrostatics and stability alter with the loading conditions and thus both designer and operator should be able to know the hydrostatics and stability of ship in all loading conditions using our designed tool. Based on the requirement, we developed a tool using a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) coding language to obtain hydrostatics, intact stability as well as damaged stability results. The tool assists to get the instant results of stability and hydrostatic which includes important parameters of ship stability like new draught, center of buoyancy, metacentric height, trim, list, cross curve (KN), righting arm (GZ) curve and other parameters in the form of numerical values and plots. In addition to these utilities, the tool can also develop a floodable length curve, which can facilitate the designers in undertaking the decision about the minimum number of compartments to ensure the safety and low cost of the design based on the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) standards.
