摘要：

It has been established that under loading with a constant stress the growth rate crack generation is characterized by a considerable incubation period. On this basis acoustic emission inspection is shown to be justified for preventing accidental failure during a pneumatic test but cannot be used to investigate less dangerous defects, i.e., stress concentrators in objects far from fracture.
