The preposterous idea of blocking the use of natural gas for electricity generation and, in its place, legislating the preference for the use of high-carbon fuels such as coal is largely to be blamed on 'the gods of EPF (Energy Planning Foolishness)'. Not only did the 'gods' of 1950s (lawmakers) take actions that slowed exploration for new natural gas supplies, and delayed the repair of old and the construction of new infrastructures to deliver gas. This was even compounded by 1970s legislators who passed a 'Fuels Use Act', mandating the restriction of natural gas use on the ground that the US is running out of the precious resource. Notwithstanding the edge of natural gas over coal in terms of energy efficiency, plus the fact that such low-carbon fuel has historically long been capturing an increasing market share, the gods of EPF have successfully pursued their purpose, wreaking havoc on the unsuspecting populace.
