摘要
Little in engineering education exchanges between the East and the West has occurred. Differences exist between the East and West in language, cultural and modern technological areas. The semantic or linguistic system based on alphabetical pronunciation of the West and that based on ideographic of the East are compared from their basic structure, and learning skill to cognitive effect. Certain connections are made between linguistic system and conceptual fitness for engineering education. Cultural impact on engineering education is more evidenced. Eastern Confucian teachings have been highly regarded. Historically, where then is freedom, there exists free thought and creativity, which am-acts great scientists and engineers. In this era of electronic and high tech impact, engineering education in the East is confronted with computer software built on an alphabetical structure and logic, giving an extra burden in learning. The 21(st) Century sees a blending of East and West to create a more global culture and a new engineering environment. More exchanges between the East and the West are essential to bridge the gap and bring us to a common ground of enlightenment.
