Growth, linear and nonlinear optical property and dielectric studies of an efficient organic ionic single crystal: 2-amino-5-methyl-pyridinium trifluoroacetate for optoelectronic devices

摘要
Single crystals of an efficient nonlinear optical material 2-amino-5-methyl-pyridinium trifluoroacetate have been successfully grown by slow evaporation technique using methanol as a solvent. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction data confirm that 2-amino-5-methyl-pyridinium trifluoroacetate crystallized into orthorhombic crystal system with non-centrosymmetric space group Pna2(1). FTIR and FT-Raman spectral analysis confirms the various functional groups present in the grown crystal. The UV-Vis-NIR transmittance spectrum was recorded to assess the optical transmission, cut-off wavelength and the band gap energy of the grown crystal. The TG-DSC analysis performed to study the thermal behaviour of the 2-amino-5-methyl-pyridinium trifluoroacetate compound indicates that the crystal is thermally stable up to 192 degrees C. The second harmonic generation property of the crystal was confirmed by the emission of green signal under Kurtz and Perry powder test using Nd:YAG laser beam. The laser-induced surface damage threshold value of the grown 2-amino-5-methyl-pyridinium trifluoroacetate crystal was found to be 1.48 GW/cm(2). The dielectric behaviour of the crystal measured by a Keithley impedance analyser shows a very low value of dielectric constant and loss at higher frequencies. This reveals the high optical quality of the grown crystal for photonic and optoelectronic devices.
