K-P (Potassium-Phosphorus) System

A study was conducted to investigate the formation of the potassium-phosphorous (K-P) system. K 3P was prepared by reaction of the elements in liquid ammonia or in liquid hydrocarbon prepared this compound by the reduction of PCl 3 or PCl 5 with K. It was better prepared by reaction of K with white or red P in stoichiometric amounts without solvent and characterized by powder XRD. KP was prepared by the reaction of the elements and it was characterized by single-crystal XRD. K 4P 6 was prepared by reaction of the elements in stoichiometric ratio that existed in two forms. K 4P 6 was prepared by reaction of the elements in liquid ammonia. KP 5 was prepared by reaction of the elements in liquid ammonia solution. KP 7 was identified initially as KP x, product of the reaction between K and white P.
