substituted eta(4)-(1-oxiranyl-diene) iron tricarbonyl complexes of known configuration are easily synthesized as pure diastereomers. ?hey undergo regiospecific Lewis acid mediated reductions to afford alpha-alkyl beta-hydroxy dienes which represent subunits of various polyenic macrolactones and related natural products.
