The bonding, structures and photochemistry of the Group VIII metal cyclopentadienyl carbonyl derivatives of the form, (eta(5)-C5H5)(2)M-2(CO)(4), where M = Fe, Ru and Os, are reviewed. The primary emphasis of the review is to bring together the somewhat complex literature in this field, to critically examine the evidence and interpretations and to identify areas for future research opportunities.
