Terahertz-Wave Spectrophotometry by Compton Backscattering of Coherent Transition Radiation

We observed a continuous-spectrum light beam resulting from Compton backscattering by using coherent transition radiations from an L-band electron linear accelerator at the Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute. The measured spectrum of the Compton backscattered photons was similar to that calculated from the spectrum of coherent transition radiation. The transmission spectrum of a Mylar film in the millimeter-wave region was calculated by measuring the spectrum of the Compton backscattered photons. The calculated transmission spectrum was in good agreement with that measured using a Martin-Puplett-type interferometer. (C) 2010 The Japan Society of Applied Physics
