Coupled-resonator network is applied to the design of a rat-race coupler with bandpass response in this paper. Net-type resonators are used to reduce the circuit size and control the harmonies. As a result, the proposed coupler exhibits not only a compact size but also good stopband rejection. The proposed coupler occupies only one sixth area of the conventional design, while the rejection level in the stopband is better than 30 dB up to 4.3f(0). The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated predictions.
