摘要
The paper studies the process of final polishing of metals, namely hardened steel (ShkH15), copper (M-2), brass (S-64), and titanium (VT1-0) specimens with the initial surface roughness Ra ranging between 1.2 and 0.3 mu m. The process proves to be a two-stage one. In the first stage, a surface oxide film forms as a result of surface activation by friction, and in the second stage, it is destroyed and removed under the influence of the abrasive component and other components of the paste. The rate of polishing depends on the tribochemical activity of the abrasive powder material based on a solid solution of aluminum oxides and iron.
