摘要：
The concrete spillway of the 15 metre high composite Hirehalla dam in Raichur district of Kamataka is to be built on foundation consisting of highly weathered and soft rock masses. In-situ investigations were carried. out to evaluate deformability, bearing capacity of foundation rock and shear strength parameters for dam foundation interface. The rock mass was found to have low modulus but adequate bearing capacity: The cohesion and the friction angle were found to be 0.02 MPa and 33 degrees respectively.
