摘要
Colonic adenomas were detected with whole-body F-18 FDG PET in two asymptomatic patients. On the PET images, areas of focal FDG accumulations suggesting colonic lesions were seen. Colonoscopy showed them to be colonic polyps. A 2 cm descending colon polyp was found in one patient, and a 1.3 cm sigmoid colon polyp in the other. Endoscopic polypectomies were performed. Each polyp was diagnosed as adenoma. Colonic adenoma has clinical significance as a premalignant lesion, and is usually treatable with endoscopic polypectomy. The prevalence of colonic adenoma is not low. Experience suggests that colonic adenomas larger than 1.3 cm might be detected incidentally during whole-body PET studies. It is beneficial that bowel preparation is not required in the PET study.
