Magnetic reconnection in the galactic halo

摘要
Magnetic reconnection may play an important role for the energetics in the galactic halo. We study the reconnection process in a partially ionized plasma system, that is appropriate to model the interaction of a high-velocity cloud with the galactic disk, by means of plasma-neutral gas fluid simulations. In the considered configurations reconnection rather results in heating than in significant plasma acceleration and thus may contribute to the formation of X-ray emission regions at the edges of high-velocity clouds.
