Coastline changes in the Pacific of Panama due to coastal erosion

摘要
Changes in the coastal zone are due to climate change, coastal dynamics, and human activities. Panama's coastline limits the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, totaling 2988 km. Larger elevations are observed on the Pacific coast in comparison with the coasts of the Caribbean. Since 2009, coastal erosion is outstanding in Punta Chame. Changes in Punta Chame's coastline were defined using satellite imagery and the ArcGIS DSAS toolbox. This research aims to evaluate coastal changes and their link to coastal processes and human activities. From 2005 to 2017 Punta Chame was 50% eroded. The south section of Punta Chame has the highest erosion rate due to the waves coming from the Pacific Ocean. Natural and anthropogenic stressors were evaluated based on their link to coastal erosion in the zone.
