The determination of methionine from pharmaceutical products using the redox reaction with potassium permanganate

摘要
Between the 22 natural amino acids, methionine is a tio-aminoacid. A kinetic method is described for micro-quantitative determination of methionine, based on redox reactions, between methionine and potassium permanganate. The reaction is studied spectrophotometrically. The stoichiometry of reaction was determined by spectrophotometrical titration; also, choosing the convenient reaction conditions was increased the methods sensitivity. The proposed method was used to determine methionine from pharmaceutical forms that contain this amino acid.
