摘要：
The benefits of fluoride in preventing tooth decay were discovered accidentally at the turn of the century. Since that time, the fluoridation of community water supplies has dramatically improved the health of American teeth. There remains some controversy surrounding fluoridation, but its efficacy has been proven and it is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
