摘要：

The achievements of the Institute of Iron and Steel Technology at the Bergakademie Freiberg in the education and research field are discussed. The research fields in ferrous metallurgy in the institute have been varied and expansive. Some of the modernized technology and equipment of the institute include vacuum melting, pouring and fast solidification simulator, middle frequency induction furnaces, electro slag remelting plant, vacuum heat treatment unit, salt bath and air circulating furnaces and high frequency (HF) induction plant. Steel technology is a major subject in the structured study course of material science and technology of the institute.
