Long-term results with the Branemark System® in irradiated and non-irradiated patients

摘要：

This study comprised 345 cancer patients that had osseointegrated implants inserted in various craniofacial bones for rehabilitation of surgically created defects. Altogether 864 implants were inserted of which 176 were lost during loading. Follow-up time varied from 1,2 - 21 years. The highest failures were observed after preoperative radiotherapy in the frontal bone and zygoma. Lowest implant failures were observed in the nonirradiated temporal bone and mandible. Adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen treatment reduced implant failures in all regions. Over-all patient satisfaction was very high with the implant-based retention of craniofacial prostheses.
