CaTiO3:Eu3+ layers coated SiO2 particles: Core-shell structured red phosphors for near-UV white LEDs

摘要
CaTiO3:Eu3+ layers were coated on non-aggregated, monodisperse and spherical SiO2 particles through sol-gel process which used citric acid as the chelating agent, resulting in the formation of SiO2-CaTiO3:Eu3+ core-shell structured phosphors. The results of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy demonstrate that the CaTiO3:Eu3+ phosphor layers were successfully coated on the SiO2 surfaces. The SiO2 template imprinted its morphology to the CaTiO3:Eu3+ layers and decreased the size of these luminescent crystalline grains. It can be observed that these core-shell phosphors exhibit strong red emission dominated by D-5(0) to F-7(2) transition of Eu3+ ions at 616 nm under near-UV excitation (400 nm), and the photoluminescence (PL) intensity can be tuned by the coating number.
