摘要：

This paper describes an on going research by the authors who are seeking methods to investigate the mechanism of Internet based Virtual Manufacturing Enterprises (IVMEs). The primary aim is to identify the different components of IVMEs and understand the way they operate. Petri net technique is used in this research to set up a hierarchical model for an IVME and simulation is also implemented based on that model. Modelling methodology and important modelling concepts used during this research are also discussed.
