摘要
This study deals with the design and processing of oxide-oxide ceramic nanocomposites. Two strategies to introduce ceramic nanoparticles in the ceramic matrix are applied, starting either from nanopowders or from colloidal precursor sols. For the system ZrO2(nano)/Al2O3, a homogeneous distribution of nanoparticles in the matrix could be obtained. This resulted in a suppressed grain growth of the Al2O3 matrix. The microstructural analysis of Al2O3(nano)/ZrO2 system revealed larger grain size for the incorporated particles, probably due to the strong agglomeration of the nanopowder. The addition of Al2O3 did not influence the average grain size of the yttrium. stabilised ZrO2.
