摘要
"The Renaissance" is one of the most important topics, altogether with the topics of "Enlightenment," "Universalism," and "Progress" of the West's discourse on oneself which has been imposed to the rest of the world in modern time. In this text the author analyses its emergence in the 19th century in authors like Jacob Burckhardt, Georg Voigt, and Jules Michelet, and the criticisms that have been addressed to it since the 1930th. He emphasizes the importance of these criticisms, but at the same time contends that they remain insufficient as long as the study of European Renaissance has not been placed in a Global History perspective.
