Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of the Essential Oil of Hymenocrater elegans Bunge

摘要
The composition of the essential oil obtained from the dried aerial parts of Hymenocrater elegans Bunge (Lamiaceae) was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Forty-five components have been identified in the oil of H. elegans. The major constituents of the oil were manoyl oxide (22.7 %), sclareol (12.4%) and 1,8-cineole (8.3 %). The antimicrobial activity of H. elegans oil was studied using the disk diffusion method and determination of minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. The H. elegans oil exhibited concentration-dependent antibacterial activity on Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi. The essential oil did not show antifungal activity against fungi.
