The polystaged process of mine waste water purification includes the stage of fine solid particle separation from waste water. Known screen filters have a common disadvantage: since the media being filtered typically includes fine grain and adhesive substances, the screen very quickly becomes clogged and must be removed or cleaned. The technology implemented in the acoustic screen filter system (ASF) concept uses acoustic energy, coupled hydraulically through the subject liquid media and fine mesh screen to perform: 1) a separation of solid suspended particles from a host liquid. 2) enhanced filtration of the liquid fraction from the solids fraction to specified limits. and 3) continuous cleaning of the screen, preventing screen blinding. The basic filter system consists of a tank body equipped to introduce the subject liquid with contained suspended solids, house a fine micron mesh screen, support a suitable energy source, permit removal of filtered liquid, and promote removal of suspended solids concentrate.
