The axodes of the Bennett linkage

Despite the Bennett loop's modest appearance as merely a skew, 4-hinge, 4-bar chain and the great attention which has been accorded it over almost a century, the axodes of its motion have not previously been delineated. That task is carried out here, and there is also established the relationship between the ruled surface and the corresponding centrode of the linkage's planar form. The occasion is taken to determine as well the fixed axode of the Schatz loop's central coupler. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
