The growth, optical and luminescence characteristics of Pr-doped Sr-3 Y(BO3)(3) (Pr:SrYBO) single crystals are studied. The Pr:SYBO single crystals with dimension of phi 2.0 x 30 mm(3) were grown by micro-pulling down method with radio frequency heating system. The emission bands at 280-300 nm and 608 nm correspond to 5d-4f transition and 4f-4f transition of Pr3+ respectively, and were observed under 250 nm excitation. Under the alpha-ray excitation only the 4f-4f luminescence of Pr3+ was observed.
