New benzo[ghilperylene derivatives bearing valuable functional groups at well defined positions were synthesized in two steps, in 59%-72% over all yields, using vinyl bridges as precursors. These pi-conjugated hexacyclic frameworks have been characterized experimentally using UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopies and an emission in the visible region was identified. After characterization by cyclic voltammetry, all derivatives showed electrochemical band gap (Eg-el) less than 2.35 eV indicating that they might be suitable candidates for electron-injection hole-blocking layers.
