An analysis of the impact of strategic decision-making on public organisations' effectiveness

This research was aimed at ascertaining the quality of strategic decisions regarding their impact on organisational effectiveness in public organisations. Likewise, how variables related to strategic decision-making influenced the quality of the decisions so adopted was also identified. A sample of 37 public organisations in the north of Chile was thus taken. The results of the investigation from the sample of public institutions analysed here showed that 35.9% of organisational effectiveness was explained by the strategic decisions' quality (p<0.01) and that decision-making explained 74.4% of the strategic decisions' quality (p<0.01), rationality (p<0.076), cognitive conflict (p<0.01) and cognitive flexibility (p<0.015) being the most relevant variables from a statistical point of view..
