摘要
Local stresses and deformations of asperities depend on the load-bearing capacity of the surface, which in turn significantly influences the wear behaviour in aluminum forming. This effect increases especially in the transition between boundary lubrication and dry friction. This paper studies the influence of the real contact area on friction and wear in this transition range. While sheets with a low load-bearing ratio show a strong tendency to adhesion, wear volumes were reduced by up to 90% with a high load-bearing surface under dry conditions. In addition, friction values were evenly reduced by up to 85% under boundary lubrication. Therefore, the friction reducing effect of surface structures under boundary-lubricated conditions has to be questioned.
