摘要
The various policies followed by successive governments towards British seaports cannot be described in terms of continuous development. The author examines the needs apparent after World War II, and the steps taken to deal with them by the Harbours Act of 1964 and the work of the National Ports Council. He also considers the different growth and importance of various ports, the impact of containerisation on ports, and some controversial new policies.
