摘要
Nowadays X-ray computed tomography (CT) imaging is being applied in the field of structural engineering. Scanning a concrete specimen by using X-ray tomography provides an insight into the inner structure without the need to destroy the specimen. As an example, the internal structure of cement-based materials is of high importance for understanding and modeling the transport phenomena that influence its durability. Some methods have been applied to observe and quantify the size and distribution of aggregate and cracks. In this study we would like demonstrate some examples of the potential of X-ray CT to study the three-dimensional evaluation of concrete structures and building material. Based on the technical potential of medical CT we believe that our studies provide enough indication for the successful use of CT for concrete and concrete elements to determine aggregate size and distribution, pore or void size and distribution, deterioration due to freeze-thaw cycles and porosity, level of deterioration of concrete due to fire, and level of deterioration of steel prestressing wires due to corrosion.
