摘要
Nanoporous gold (NPG) is promising to functionalize as an immunoisolation membrane in cell encapsulation therapy (CET) due to its tunable pore structure. Herein, we evaluated the potential utilization of NPG membrane for the encapsulation of pancreatic islet cells, that is, a practical CET to correct the diabetic state. The results showed that the NPG membrane maintained the viability of mouse insulinoma 6 (MIN6) cells and allowed the sufficient exchange of substances for cell metabolism over 4 days. In vitro, the glucose-stimulated insulin released by encapsulated cells was detected, demonstrating the functional performance of the NPG-encapsulation.
