Over the last 3-4 years the world of corporate publishing has undergone deep changes: from traditional printing process deliverables to multi-platform electronic products; from printed paper to CD-ROM and online information resources. We are now on the verge of another major remodelling, with the advent of collaborative environments and resources which actually allow the information to be shared among corporate intranets and to be reused to generate new added value. The incoming push environments will allow the design of new information outlets that will load (or overload) the worker's desktop in every organisation with pervasive information sources. Will this revolution be a benefit for all the industries or will only the major ones be able to profit from that? How will the traditional information production process cope with an environment able to distribute the information instantly without an explicit request? Is the traditional printing process, which is still used in information production in corporations, still suitable? How about dealing with information overload? And with non traditional knowledge sources? Will this evaluation apply just to the corporate publishing world or will it extend to other publishing environments? Some considerations are introduced in this presentation.
