Rigorous treatment is given for the calculation of the quasi-static local magnetic field, flux density and magnetisation, and hence also for the average bulk magnetisation behaviour, in a type II superconductor of arbitrary shape and of macroscopic dimensions, i.e. large with respect to the London penetration length lambda(L). The analysis explicitly includes the equilibrium constitutive relation B[H-rev] (e.g. Abrikosov) and the vortex pinning force dependence on induction B. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
